240V & dedicated circuits

DuPage · Kane · Kendall · Will counties, IL

Big appliances and tools need their own circuit, sized for what they draw. Sharing a circuit is how you get tripped breakers and warm cords.

We run dedicated circuits for dryers, ranges, hot tubs, garage and shop tools, and home theater or sound systems, with the right wire size, breaker and disconnect.

Signs you need this

  • A new dryer, range or cooktop with a different plug
  • A hot tub or spa going in
  • Shop tools, a compressor or a welder in the garage
  • A breaker that trips when one appliance runs

Questions

Does a hot tub need a disconnect?

Yes. A hot tub needs a dedicated circuit with GFCI protection and a disconnect within sight of the tub. We size it to the tub's spec sheet.

My new dryer plug does not match the outlet. What now?

Older homes often have 3-prong dryer outlets; newer dryers use 4-prong. We can update the outlet and wiring so it matches.

Is there room in my panel?

A 240V circuit takes two spaces. If your panel is full, we will explain the options, such as rearranging circuits, adding a sub-panel or upgrading the panel.
